    How the Protein Estimate Is Calculated

    The tool uses the same logic as a standard nutrition label: protein = weight × protein per 100 g ÷ 100.

    If you enter the slice weight in ounces, the tool converts it to grams first by multiplying by 28.3495. This step prevents one of the most common unit mistakes in nutrition tracking.

    Example: a 100 g slice of chocolate cake with 5.3 g protein per 100 g provides 5.3 g of protein. A 50 g slice provides 2.65 g. Because the calculation scales linearly, you can use it for any portion size.

    Factors That Affect Accuracy

    Cake recipes vary widely. The egg and dairy content are the main protein sources, so a custard-based cheesecake or an egg-heavy sponge will usually have more protein than a lean fruitcake. Flour type also matters: almond flour and chickpea flour add protein, while white wheat flour contributes less than whole wheat or soy flour.

    Frosting and filling change the picture because they replace part of the cake with ingredients that may have little or no protein.
