The math behind this tool is a simple density calculation:

Calories per gram (kcal/g) = total calories ÷ total weight in grams

Once you have kcal/g, multiply by 100 to get the familiar label value per 100 g. Multiply by your serving weight to get calories in that portion. This is the same principle used to compare energy density of different foods: oils and nuts are high, fruits and some jams are low.
